Survivor made me happy this season

I'm not sure how many of you watch this long running show, but I just got into it three seasons ago.  The mighty Russel was the new thing.  Then came the All-Stars and now this season.  So many things happened this season that hooked me so good.  First of all there was Boston Rob.  My wife has been a big fan for years of this gentleman.  I'm glad I got a chance to see him compete for more than a few days this time.  Then there was Phillip...the "Secret Agent?" as they kept printing under his name.  He could quite possibly be the most insane man I have seen on the show.  OK, Naynay from a few seasons back may be the craziest, but Phillip really pushes that envelope.

Hit the jump for more opinions that will for sure have spoilers in case you haven't seen the finale yet.

A small change...

So some of you may know that I recently added an addition to the family.  Because of this I have been spending a ton of time at home.  As anyone who has had a youngster will attest, watching an entire movie is sometimes a long and daunting task.  Sometimes it can take a few days to get through a movie.

Long story short, I have been a little lax on movies as of late.  I miss them terribly and there are SO many out that I would love to see but I find myself watching TV way more than movies on a daily basis.  In lieu of this I have decided to expand my blog to include television.  Many of you may argue that TV shows aren't really filmed that often.  Well neither are actual movies these days.  So I am not going to change my blog title.  It will still be "The Filmed Life".  I figure I am using it more of a verb like the act of filming something.  Plus it sounds better than "The Shot Life".  And Digital Domain is already taken.

I ask that you go ahead and join me in my love of all things acted on a screen (also to long of a title).  I hope I can still give you some sort of entertainment in your day.  This switch will allow me to connect to you on a more permanent basis.  I promise to not give away any spoilers to someone who may have not seen the episode yet.  I also promise to try and stir up conversations!  So please keep reading and posting comments.  Let's get this new ball rolling!!

Jason Bateman is everywhere

I am really hoping he doesn't get overexposed. It seems like Jason Bateman is showing up just about everywhere these days. He has that body swapping comedy with Ryan Reynolds and now "Horrible Bosses". This one looks to be quite funny as well. I do love me some Mr. Bateman and he just keeps delivering great things. Now if he would just get on that "Arrested Development" thing...

Hit the jump for the trailer for "Horrible Bosses".

"The House of the Devil" makes for good nostalgia

There was a time when horror films were much more subtle than they are today.  They relied heavily on tension than a bunch of jump scares.  In my opinion, jump scares can be fun but are way too easy.  A bunch of jump scares lumped together do not make a good horror movie.  There has to be that certain creep factor that oozes into your blood stream and creeps up your spine.  That feeling of dread that you know something bad could happen at any moment.  That feeling that makes you want to yell at the screen "Don't go in there!"  I feel this has been lost on many of today's gorefests that rely too heavily on CGI and torture instead of making a tension filled story.  If you are a fan of the old school scares like I am, "The House of the Devil" might be right up your ally.

"What's Your Number?" seems like it's right up my ally!

Ok so I have to admit I am in love with Anna Faris.  I also am a huge fan of Chris Evans.  So the two of them in the same movie along with a ton of others I enjoy sounds like it could be fun.  Check out the trailer below!!

An interesting concept

I got this off of a Tweet that Roger Ebert did.  He found a blog about a guy who thinks we should have a subscription service to movie theaters.  I was sceptical at first but the more I thought of it the more I think it could work.  I know I would do it!!  Check out THIS LINK to read the full article!!

"Another Earth" looks promising...or at least interesting

This film looks to be interesting.  Earth finds another Earth with another you on it.  What would you do if you had the opportunity to maybe save yourself from making the same mistakes you are making in this world.  Would you do it?  Check out the trailer below.  I think I'm going to see this one!!

"30 Mintues or Less" from the director of "Zombieland"

I loved Zombieland.  Mainly it was because my wife also enjoyed it so that makes for a fun time at the movies.  I also enjoy both Jessie and Aziz.  There is also Danny McBride.  To top it all off, this has Nick Swardson whom I used to play ComedySportz with.  There are many things going right for this movie before I even saw the trailer.  You must watch the red band trailer below.  I'm sold and I am super excited for this crazy movie.

Red band "The Change-Up" trailer looks to be funny!

I have been interested in this movie because of my love for both of these guys.  They make me laugh super hard and to know they are doing a movie together really had me excited.  Well the first official red band trailer is out and I laughed a lot.  It looks to be ridiculous but I am sure I'm going to love it.  Hit the jump for a peak!

"The Fast and The Furious" made for good late night movie watching

I have a very good friend who is absolutely in love with these movies.  Well three out of the current four that are released.  He is stoked for the 5th one to come out and was shocked that I had not seen a single one.  I love action movies and car chases so it was a wonder to him that I hadn't seen this.  My reasons?  Well every preview that I saw made this look so incredibly lame I wouldn't touch it.  My friend said it was fun.  He also enjoyed "The Number 25" but that is a different story.  Up late this weekend with Kiley I came across it to watch instantly.  Why not?  It's 12:00 in the morning.  What could be so bad about it?  Turns out not as much as I thought.

"Mr. Popper's Penguins" looks cute. And I will see it.

I have always enjoyed Jim Carrey.  This looks to be silly and fun and I really am excited to see it.  Hit the jump below for the new international trailer!!

"Antichrist" is a true WTF movie

I have previously stated on this blog how much I love Lars von Trier.  I think his movies are daring, offbeat and beautifully heartbreaking.  "Dancer in the Dark" is still one of my favorite movies to date.  I enjoy von Trier's take on the world and the look and feel of his movies are generally very interesting and cool.  I watched the first scene of "Antichrist" with high expectations and it didn't disappoint.  The music, camerawork and imagery were beautiful and disturbing.  Little did I know that beautiful and disturbing would be the two words that would resonate for the entire film...with an emphasis on disturbing.

Epic new trailer for "Cowboys & Aliens"!!!!

Holy crap!!!  I was expecting big things for this movie and every little thing they release makes it more and more interesting!!!!!  You absolutely MUST watch this official trailer for this highly anticipated movie.  Jon Favreau may be a dick, but he is an amazing movie director.  This has become one of the must see movies of 2011.  Check out the new trailer after the jump!!!

Touching video on Ebert

I found this over on Firstshowing.net.  I have to say that I completely respect Ebert and his reviews.  We may not agree all the time, but for the most part he is the one reviewer that I trust.  This is totally worth your time to watch.  It is a video he recorded for TED and is truly great.  If you have ever read one of his reviews, you must watch this video.  Hit the jump and enjoy!!

"Diary of a Whimpy Kid" fun and maybe too close to my young life

Weaseling free HBO out of Comcast has lead to me seeing a number of movies that I may not have rented.  My wife really wanted to see this and I was down so we set the DVR to record it.  When sitting down to watch it I had no idea what to expect.  I did learn that it was based off of a comic book (basically) so that piqued my interest a bit.  After watching the whole thing in one sitting (which never happens anymore) I am pleased to report a good rating.  Although it may have hit a bit too close to home for me.

Must watch trailer for "The Perfect Host"

If you haven't seen this yet, you have to check it out.  David Hyde Pierce plays a demented guy in this amazing looking dark comedy.  It is great to see him in a role like this.  It is something I could have totally seen him doing.  I always wanted him to just snap and get wild!!  Hit the jump for the preview below.

You have been Buscemezed!!

If you haven't yet seen the "Chicks with Buscemeyes" Tumblr page yet, you must.  It is a whole list of ladies who have had there eyes replaced with Steve Buscemi's.  It is awesome and creepy all at the same time.  I personally think the picture of Ke$ha (pictured) is kind of how I picture her anyways.  Check it out!!

Movie was less than "Shutter" inducing

Asian horror films are a passion of mine.  I will freely admit that about 85% of them are really bad.  There are a handful of them that are quite rewarding like "Ringu", "The Eye" or "A Tale of Two Sisters".  Many of these movies have been remade here in the states where they are destroyed.  There is a select few that are as good or even better than the original, but for the most part they are utter crap.  The remake of "Shutter" was ok, but not very great.  So I was hoping the original was decent at least.  Unfortunately, this was not to be.

What are you excited to see this weekend?

If I didn't have a baby I would be running out to see "The Source Code", "Hannah", or "Your Highness".  I know "Your Highness" hasn't been getting great reviews, but I still feel compelled to see it.  I think "Hannah" is the one I'm most excited about!!  What about you?  What are going to see this weekend?

Ok so this one came out of nowhere...

How did I miss learning about this?  Steve Carell, Julianne Moore, Emma Stone, and Ryan Gosling in a comedy that looks AWESOME!!!  So it was directed by the guys who brought such gems as "Bad Santa" and "The Bad News Bears" but they also brought us "I Love You, Phillip Morris" which I hear is also great.  Hit the jump below to see the trailer.  It has made my list of films I'm excited for this year.

New Lars Von Trier!!

Over at Firstshowing.net I found the preview for "Melancholia".  It is a beautiful looking movie surrounding a wedding and rogue planet that may or may not run into the Earth.  It is weird and intriguing and I wouldn't expect anything less from this director.  His "Dancer in the Dark" and "Dogville" are way up on my list of films I love.  "Dancer in the Dark" is one of my top five.  It is heart breaking!  Anyways, hit the jump to watch the preview.

"Ong Bak 2" is a lot of kicking ass with not an interesting story

If you have yet to experience Tony Jaa in a movie you are missing out.  He brings new meaning to pain and suffering when it comes to martial arts action films.  Some of the stunts he pulls off are even more crazy and painful looking than Jackie Chan at his best.  Many of the fight scenes in his movies are so full of bone crunching moves that I find myself wincing and moaning at the sight of it.  That is actually a good thing.  It is pretty awesome to see him in action.  You still don't entirely believe he can take on the onslaught of foes that get sent at him, but he is the closest to date.  Now if we could just get him to be in movies with interesting stories...

"The Box" is an ok movie for one that I didn't quite get

What would you do if a stranger showed up at your door and offered you an option: Press a a button and someone you didn't know would die and you would make one million dollars in cash.  Or else you can choose not to and the button would be passed on to someone else.  This is the question brought forth at the beginning of this dizzying "thriller" from writter/director Richard Kelly.  If you have seen "Donnie Darko" you will have some idea about what kind of head trip you are in for if you sit down to watch this one.  I just left feeling a bit underwhelmed.  And confused.

Due to the complicated nature of the movie, there may be spoilers below.  It may not give anything away, but I don't want to ruin it for you if you intend to see it!!  Therefore, let me give you my raiting upfront and you can read on if you want an explanation :)

6 out of 10 stars

"Monsters" is your artsy monster movie

There was a ton of indie buzz around "Monsters", the low budget movie about aliens that are living on our planet.  I was very happy to learn that I could watch this film on Netflix watch instantly, and in HD no less!  I had my daughter in my arms and sat down to dig in and sat in relative awe for the entire film.  It wasn't always the good awe, but it was awe nonetheless.

Full trailer for "The Hangover, Part II"

I was completely taken by surprise with how much I loved the first movie.  It was funny, silly, and kind of clever.  It actually was a guy movie that women liked!!  Well it seems that the new movie is going to be more of the same awesomeness that we all have come to love.  The new trailer was released yesterday.  Hit the jump to check it out!!

Absence explained!!

My few a meager followers must have been dying to know why I dropped off the radar last week.  The reason is a little baby!!  My wife and I welcomed Kiley Elizabeth into the world on March 23rd.  That is her and my wife in the picture.  I have been watching a lot of movies while I have been up with her so be sure to look for a few reviews this week!!

Soundtrack for "Hanna"

On a whim I was looking through iTunes yesterday and noticed the soundtrack for the upcoming movie "Hanna" was available.  To my surprise it was created by The Chemical Brothers!  I have always been hit or miss on their albums but I still own them all.  So of course I had to download this immediately.  I listened through it this morning and I must say I think it will be a great addition to the film.  It already seems to be a movie that is fighting to be interesting.  This soundtrack only adds to that.  It is mostly mellow with the signature rich electronic sound the Bros. are known for.  There is a nice light subtlety that has seeped into a lot of their music and that also comes across.  I'm super curious to see how this fits in with the movie when it hits screens later this year.

Hit the jump for a preview of the film!!

"Let Me In" is beautiful and dark

Having seen the original, I was both excited and leery to watch this film.  I think of the original as one of the best vampire movies I have ever seen.  I had heard that Matt Reeves ("Cloverfield") actually did a pretty good job.  I still had my doubts.  The original was a slow paced, bleak look at the awkwardness of adolescence.  Not exactly the type of film you would expect to come out of a director who had made a killer summer action movie.  An impressive cast made it all the more intriguing.  However there was still this lingering doubt in my mind.  Well I finally got around to watching it last night.  I am glad to say I was very wrong to doubt.

Another alien invasion film?!  From the producer of "Shaun of the Dead"?!  Yes please!!!!  You must check out this great looking preview from this writing-directing debut film maker.  It looks really funny, intense, and unique.  I will for sure be seeing this one.

Hit the jump to watch the first preview!!

Jennifer Lawrence gets role of Katniss

So I read a lot of young adult novels.  I don't have a lot of time to read and I like science fiction.  I also like to plow through a book in a short amount of time.  These books allow me to do that.  So enough about me defending my silly book obsession!

"The Hunger Games" based on the teen novel has found it's lead actress according to themockingjay.net.  It is none other than Academy Award nominee Jennifer Lawrence.  Yes she is older than the lead character by a few years and that bugs me.  I'm not saying she won't be great at the part, I just wish they would at least try and get the right age.  There were a number of talented actresses up for the part that were much more age appropriate.  I am guessing one of the main reasons they did this was so they could cast an older male lead.  In fact this story needs two and they need to be hunky.  Not just good looking but hunky.

Have you read the books?  What do you think about this casting?

Hilarious "Star Wars" remake

The great guys over at FirstShowing.net have found this little gem made by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.  Apparently, they took a little time off on the set of "Paul" to film this.  Hit the jump to watch the hilarity.

"Battle: L.A." was close to making me mad...but not quite

Anyone who reads this blog has known I have been stoked for this movie to come out.  I was itching to go see it all weekend, but it never happened.  I started to hear a few reviews on it and many of them were not positive.  I was absolutely determined to go into my viewing with an open mind and a want to see this movie still.  Well I got the opportunity last night.  I do have to say that many of the reviews are correct, but I still don't agree with them.  Yes this movie is flawed, but it in no way is the end of cinema as some reviewers would have you believe.

Seriously Neil Patrick Harris?

I know I am late to the party on this one but I just watched the latest trailer for "The Smurfs", the big tent pole film that is supposed to be HUGE this summer.  I personally beg to differ.  After watching the preview I had serious questions I would love to ask NPH.  Mainly...WHY?!

Hit the jump to see for yourself.  If you don't have to hold your hand down from gouging your eyes out, we may need to talk.

Who saw "Battle:L.A." this weekend?

So I never got out to see this.  I am actually kind of bummed about it.  However I had a wonderfully relaxing weekend so I can't complain too much.  Anywho, I have heard so many mixed messages about this film I am wondering what you all thought?  Is it a fun, mindless action romp that is actually funny because of the bad script?  Or is it really the end of cinema as some critics have called it?

Let me know!!!!

"Super 8" is here!!!!

If you haven't seen it yet, the trailer for "Super 8" was revealed via Twitter today.  It looks stunning.  A story idea from Spielberg with a script written and directed by J.J. Abrams.  How amazing does that sound?!  This throwback sci-fi film is definitely tops on my list of must see movies this year.  Watch the trailer below and tell me what you think!!

Fantasy Film Friday #3

Is it Friday already?!  This past week went by fast.  Anyway we are here to discuss a brand new film that may or may not ever be made.  This is the place to discuss why or why not a film should be made.  This week in the arena...."Ender's Game"!!

For those of you not up to speed on this amazing science fiction classic written by Orson Scott Card, here is a quick break down of the plot: A young school age boy enters Battle School were he learns all about the art of war.  He turns out to be very good at it.  But in the end, what is REALLY going on at the school?

This of course leaves much out because I never like to give too much of the plot away.  This movie has been in development hell for the better part of 10 years now.  It actually has a writer/director attached now (Gavin Hood) so we shall see.  What do you think about this movie being made?  What do you expect from it?  Is there any way it could live up to your expectations?  You can see my thoughts below, but please comment and let me know what YOU think!!

"The Adjustment Bureau" makes a strong case for love

Love is truly an amazing thing.  It can cut through all boundaries and sometimes time and space.  You have heard the stories that people say about being drawn to each other only to find out they were in love in a past life.  That is surely one strong bond.  There are many strong cases to say that if true love is apparent between two people nothing can keep them apart.  This is the theory behind George Nolfi's sci-fi drama "The Adjustment Bureau".

"The Hobbit" news from a great source!!

First Showing has given everyone a tip on how to get great news about the filming of the highly anticipated film "The Hobbit".  Non other than Sir Ian McKellen himself is going to be blogging about the experience.  Just head on over to his official website to read up on it.  I'm sure this will be a great source to get insights from as the filming goes on.

Did you know Peter Jackson is filming in 3D?  This could be the next great 3D film to use it properly.  You can find out about all the goings on up to date right now.  Sir Ian certainly has a nice patter to his writing...

Still excited....

Not much to say today folks.  I am still really amped to see "Battle: Los Angeles" this weekend.  That is of course if my baby doesn't come before that.  My ability to see movies in the theater will be hampered.  However since I am now getting paid to do this I may be able to talk my wife into letting me go out to theater every so often :)

What about you?  What is your take on going to the theater vs. seeing a film at home?  I personally LOVE the whole theater experience.  If I could I would see everything out.  Let me know what you think!!!

"The Sorcerer's Apprentice" is ok if your standards are low

Have you ever seen a movie that you were sure was going to be horrible so you had no expectations whatsoever?  Then when the movie was finished you went "well that wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be"?  This was one of those movies for me.  Oh don't get me wrong, there are some major faults with this film.  I just was way more entertained than I figured I would be.

Fantasy Film Friday #2

So we missed out on last weeks debate due to illness on my part.  So this week I had to come up with a doozy of a movie that we should debate on a sequel to.  I think I have come up with just the thing!!  There have been false rumors that Keanu Reaves has said there may be a Matrix 4 & 5.  I want to know what would make these worth watching for you!!  Give me some ideas on how these movies would get you out to the theater.  Also, let me know why these movies should never be made.  I don't want answers like "the last two sucked so they should just quit".  Let's get creative and see what we can come up with!!

My answers are after the break...

Great new movies this weekend

Anyone else as excited as I am to see "Rango"?!  The previews have looked amazing and the animation looks top notch.  I am and always will be a fan of Johnny Depp.  It was directed by Gore Verbinski.  What more do I have to say?  It looks charming and funny and I cannot WAIT to see it.

Also, I am super stoked to see "The Adjustment Bureau".  I have been following this sci-fi thriller since they announced it last year.  Then it got bumped to this spring and I got worried.  80% of the time if something gets bumped, it has to do with reshoots.  That is usually not a good thing.

Anyways, hit the jump for a preview of both of these great films!!

"Tick Tock" is a great short!!!

Ever wonder what you might do with your life if you thought you only had five minutes to live?  "Tick Tock" is a short I found on SlashFilm that attempts to answer that.  It all takes place in one take and is filmed backwards.  A pretty cool 5 minute short.  Check it out after the jump!

Gah!!! Late Oscars recap

Life and sickness overtook me the last few days!!  Sorry for the late post.

So the Oscars happened, huh?  There really wasn't that much of a surprise in the winners.  There really wasn't anything too exciting about the telecast, either.  Most of the jokes were so clean and light that they didn't even make the audience laugh.  It was so frickin' polite!!  I still think Anne Hathaway did as good a job as she could.  She is really great at making something sweet and innocent seem sincere.  And damn can she sing well.  I hope that gets used in movies in the future.

My biggest disappointment?  I would have to say it was when Hailee Steinfeld didn't win for True Grit.  Especially since Melissa Leo's speech was completely insincere and phony.  I hated her so much afterwards.  Granted, I didn't get to see "The Fighter" yet, but it really made me not want to.  I'm sure I will, so don't get all angry at me.

Kurt Douglas was adorable.  That is all.

Predator the Musical...believe it!!

Over at SlashFilm, they have been posting these amazing musicals made of old Arnie movies.  This one is great.  I think someone needs to make this.  Just for the fun of it.  Hit the jump for all the singing action!!

I really wish this was real

Anyone ever wonder what would happen if Michael Bay and Roland Emmerich where to make a sequel to "E.T."? These guys did.  After the jump you will see a trailer for a movie that really should be made.  It uses footage from other movies spliced together to make a really funny idea for a part 2.  It is a bit on the long side, but well worth it.  Great job guys!!

Thanks to I Watch Stuff for making me aware of this.

"Dark City" still good after all these years

I remember the first time I saw "Dark City" in the theaters way back in 1998.  I was really getting into movies by then and I remember being awestruck by how different this movie was.  Here was a movie that wasn't afraid to be smart.  It wasn't afraid to take interesting chances.  Most importantly, it was highly entertaining on a visual and a mental level.  I watched it again last night with my wife who hadn't seen it yet.  I am very pleased to say it is still an amazing movie.

Happy President's Day!!

As a special treat I have included a clip from one of my favorite "presidential" movies.  It was called "Dave" and stars Kevin Kline as an actor who impersonates the president.  Sigourney Weaver plays the wife and this move always make me smile.  Hit the jump for one of the best clips.  Sorry about the wierd aspect ratio!!

The reason we never went back...

It has a creepy tag line.  That's for sure.  I had heard about "Apollo 18" awhile ago and have been wondering when we would see what this movie was all about.  I'm not entirely sold on it from the trailer that is embedded below the jump.  Sure it looks kind of creepy, but it isn't anything remarkably new.  Sure it's in space and I HAVE demanded that we make another space movie, but I'm not too sure on this one.  Check out the trailer and let me know what you think.

Fantasy Film Friday #1, Part 2

First off, I want to say that I had to edit my post this morning because for some reason I added Jurassic Park 5 instead of the next logical sequel which would be 4.  So we are officially talking about Jurassic Park 4.  Ms. Mellen, I apologize for switching this on you!!  Anyway, this is the post you comment on to let me know all the reasons JP4 should not be made.  My reasons are after the jump!

This movie just looks better and better!!

The new trailer for the "Thor" movie coming out in May was released on Yahoo! Movies yesterday.  It stars Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman (who is my secret wife) and directed by Kenneth Branagh.  How weird is that?!  It looks like it could be really amazing.  I have high hopes for this one.  I will let you all know more as things come out.  Hit the jump to see the trailer!!

Fantasy Film Friday #1

I was thinking of something I could get people to have a discussion about on this blog.  I think I thought of something fun, but I want to see how it goes.  Every Friday I will propose a question about a movie that may be made.  Or even a movie that should be made.  No it doesn't have to be within the fantasy realm.  I just want to have a discussion about why or why not a movie I propose should be made.  We will dedicate a different post for each side: one for why it should, one for why it shouldn't.  I would really like the why it should to be what would make it successful.  For instance, this weeks movie will be Jurassic Park 4.  There are many reasons why it shouldn't be made, but I am interested know what would need to happen to make it good.  Click the jump to see my thoughts and then comment for yourselves.  Then watch for the con side later!!

Another horror film I want to see

There are literally tons of cool looking horror films coming out this year.  I'm particularly excited for "Red State" written and directed by Kevin Smith.  He is distributing it all by himself, which is cool on its own, but the trailer looks good as well.  I am also interested in James Wan's new movie "Insidious".  Not only does it have a strong cast, but the trailer below looks really cool.  Yes, ok, I get that it is a story that has been done a ton of times before.  I just really like what James Wan has done in the past and I'm sure this one will have some good chills and visuals.  Check out the trailer below and tell me what you think!!

I want to feel spaced out

Is it just me or has there been a lack of quality space movies over the past few years?  I can only recall a handful of them right now.  Sure, there may be way more than I can recollect, but they must not have been too memorable if I forgot them, right?  I want another Star Trek.  I want another Sunshine.  There have been a number of aliens-invade-earth stories lately.  What about aliens in space?  I watched the trailer for "Mars Needs Moms!" today and I'm unsure with what to think.  It is a kids movie so I shouldn't be too angry at the lame jokes.  But I want a good adult sci-fi outer space thriller or action or horror movie.  Every time I pass the BluRay Alien Quadrilogy I want to buy it so bad.  I can't believe we have to wait until next year to catch a glimpse of "Prometheus" from Ridley Scott.  For those not in the know, this is a movie he is making in the world of "Alien".  That has been all he has said.  *sigh* I want to know now!!!

Who wants to see this with me?!

Below is the red band trailer for a sweet looking Korean revenge movie.  It stars the guy from "Oldboy", one of my personal favorite revenge movies.  Take a look and tell me what you think!!

Who else loves a great "B" movie?

I remember going to see "Tremors" in the theater.  At the time, I wasn't to big on liking a particular actor or the subtleties a movie could have.  I was only 13, how much could I know?  I thought fart jokes were hysterical.  Ok...I still think they are.  But who could have known that my love for this movie would mature along with my cinematic tastes?  For those of you who have seen this gem, you will agree with my following review.  For those have not seen this yet, go and rent it already!!!  Better yet, just go buy it.  You'll thank me later.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!!

I will admit that I am not a fan of this day.  I think it is a silly holiday and I'm happy my wife mostly agrees with me :)  Since I spoke about it earlier, here is a scene from my favorite romantic comedy.  Not my favorite scene, but probably one of the most iconic.  Enjoy!!

This movie is "Definitely, Maybe" good

As far as RomComs go, my favorite is "When Harry Met Sally".  There have been many before and many since, but none of them really come close to the humor and real life awesomeness of this genre defining classic.  "Definitely, Maybe" tries really hard to be sophisticated and fresh, but ultimately falls a little short of wholly satisfying.

Want to see a sneak preview of "Unknown"?

I have two free passes to see a sneak preview of Unknown starring Liam Neeson!!  It is showing at AMC Rosedale on Tuesday, February 15th at 7:30 PM.  If you have never been to a preview before, you need to show up at least an hour before the showing to stand in line for seats.

If you want to go, please comment below!!  Tell me your favorite movie, the movie you are most excited for, and your twitter or facebook name.  I will let you know who responds first!!!

**Update** Congrats to Pete who responded to me personally.  Let me know how you enjoy the movie!!

Anyone else excited?!

There seems to be a ton of movies coming out this year that I must admit I am very excited to see.  All the new ads for "Battle: LA" look amazing.  I love disaster movies and alien movies.  When they come together it is usually some good times.  How about "Rango" or "Captain America"?  Or even "Green Lantern" this summer?  Than there is some like Fincher's Lisbeth Slander movies that won't be out till almost Christmas and I'm already excited for.  So many hopefully great movies.  What do you want to see this year?

"Legend of the Guardians" was chock full of people I didn't know were Australian

Some of you may be asking "Why did you watch a movie about armored owls?"  My answer would be "why would you NOT watch a movie about armored owls?!"  First of all, who knew that Zach Snyder of "300" and "Watchmen" fame made this animated movie?  And furthermore, who knew Anthony LaPaglia was from Australia?!  Or even Ryan Kwanten from True Blood?!  Ok I'll stop now.

"The King's Speech" breaks into my top four

If you have ever seen the stand-up comedy of Eddie Izzard, you may be familiar with his description of British cinema.  He likens it to people arranging matchsticks for hours.  This isn't cinema for everyone, but often times it should be.  "The King's Speech" is a wonderful film that SHOULD be seen by everyone whether they want to or not.  If you are an actor, you need to see the film as a study on how it's done.  Never has a movie about two guys sitting around chatting been so compelling, so heart-warming, and darn right entertaining.

I so do not want to be "Buried" alive...

"OK, wait...this is an entire movie that takes place in a wooden coffin?  With Ryan Reynolds and no other on screen actors?  And it all takes place in one, small, cramped location?  This movie is gonna suck."  That is literally what I said to myself when I first heard of this movie.  How could this possibly be good?  He sort of showed he could be a serious actor in "Adventureland" but not enough to show he could carry a movie literally by himself.  Then I started to hear buzz about this small indie film.  Could it possibly be true?  This is an effective thriller?  Reynolds actually pulls it off?  Well I finally got the BluRay from Netflix and watched it.  Turns out I shouldn't judge movies upfront.

"127 Hours" made me squirm

Yeah, I know this movie came out in November.  I never got around to seeing it, so when they said it was going to be re released I was a happy camper.  I have heard all about this movie and how great it is.  I also was familiar with the original story so I was excited to see how this movie shook out.

Why not...worst of 2010

Why not do a worst list?  Since I posted earlier today about my faves in 2010 I might as well post a worst list as well.  Granted, I don't see as many bad movies a year as I used to (some of you will argue against this, but it is the honest to god truth) but I sure saw some stinkers this year.  So let's dig in to the crap that was released in 2010!

My picks for best of 2010

Many people have written blogs and articles about their favorite movies and performances so this isn't something very new. It actually is to me, I think. I don't know if I have ever actually sat down and pulled together a list of greatness from any given year. Since I have recently converted this blog to my love of film, I suppose it is about time I do so.

The Rite isn't possesed with goodness...

Anthony Hopkins made his career playing one of the most menacing and terrifying characters in movie history. As Dr. Hannibal Lecter he tore up the screen with a performance that still sends a chill down my spine. I have to say I was excited to go see The Rite because Hopkins plays bad so good. I walked away satisfied by his performance, but not much else.
